The big Kia is getting some unexpected lovin' in Sweden

VW Passat GTE Strikes Back in Hot Market

There were 1.880 units registered in Sweden last month, the best result in the last 20 months, doubling the result of the same period last year, while pulling the EV Share to a record 4.6%. Will we see this market surpass 5% by year end?

Looking at August Best Sellers, after two months being lead by the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the Volkswagen Passat GTE returned with a vengeance, registering 614 units, its best month to date, while in Second Place we continue to have a surprise, with the Kia Optima PHEV holding on to Silver by delivering a record 181 units, its highest standing anywhere in the world.

Interestingly, two BEVs showed up on the Top 5, and they are not named Tesla or Nissan, the Renault Zoe was Fourth, with a record 111 deliveries, while Hyundai finally decided to launch the Hyundai Ioniq Electric for real, with the Korean surging to 71 units in August (Is this already the effect of the promised production increase?)

Looking at the YTD models ranking, there were a few changes at the top, with the most important being the rise of the BMW 330e to Fourth Place, dropping the Tesla Model S to #6.

The aforementioned Kia Optima PHEV surge allowed it to jump to #5, while the Volvo V60 PHEV (Only 6 units, worst result since 2012) seems destined to fall repeatidly, it is now #8, as it sails now into the sunset.

The VW e-Golf had its best result in over two years, with 33 registrations, climbing to #22, while a few positions below, the #25 Mini Countryman PHEV joined the Top 30 radar with 34 units, promising to climb even higher in the next few months.

On the EV manufacturers ranking, the leader Volkswagen (28%, up 1%) has to thank the Passat GTE for the recent uptick in share, with Mitsubishi (14%, down 1%) in the runner-up place, and BMW (13%) in Third, while the homeboy Volvo is in Fourth, with 10% share.
