Norway July 2014 (Updated)

E-Golf Shoots For Number One Edition

A total of 1.497 EV's were sold in Norway, a below par month, dropping the EV Share by 0,05% to 14,43%.

There's a newcomer in the monthly leadership, the VW e-Golf  finally had its first real sales month, with 391 sales, shooting for the monthly EV leadership and ending in #3 on the General Ranking, behind the Toyota Auris and...The ICE Golf.

The VW e-Up! continued to sell like hot cakes (282 units sold) and ended in #3 on the electric chart, behind the Nissan Leaf, which lately has been under performing (313 units this month). It looks like the e-Golf has won the hearts (And wallets) of the middle class, leaving the japanese hatch behind.

With this brilliant performance, Volkswagen is already the Third Best Selling Brand in the YTD ranking, with 19% share, behind Nissan, with 25%, and Tesla, 27%.

A final mention for  the YTD leader Tesla, we were expecting the usual low numbers in the first month of a trimester, but 114 units it is not only the worst month of the year, but it is also the second lowest sales month for the american manufacturer in Norway...Something to worry about or just a slip?

  1. Tesla hype is over. The car has tons of issues. See Edmunds latest report, why they can't recommend the car. People are now avoiding it like plague.

    1. Um, yeah, whatever you say man. Never mind all those people who think it's the best car they ever owned.

    2. Ehumm... The reason for few Teslas is that the Tesla factory is closed for re-tooling and building a new line to be able to produce the Model X and S on and improvements on the old line for improved capacity.
They were on 30k/year before the re-tooling and will work at 50-60k/year after it.

So Tesla numbers for Juli and August will be low world wide. Then in September prepare for a record month and then keeping the high numbers and rising.

    3. Keep your bogus reasons to yourself. Tesla factory closed at end of July. Cars delivered in Norway in July must have been produced few months back.

    1. Haha,

I have driven enough Renaults for enough years in my life, to know what a lousy reliability record this brand has.

By contrast, the Golf is well-known as the most reliable mid-market European compact.

    2. "Well known" by ADAC lol

Let me guess, the last Renault you drove was a 2002 megane II.
      12 years man.
Nowadays Renaults are as reliable as VW... And probably more than Audi!

    3. The e-Golf will be an important model for electric cars to go mainstream, i mean, there's nothing more middle-class than the VW Golf, and if VW let's it be a success, then we will see middle-of-the-road buyers go electric in droves.

Speaking of Zoe, after driving it, i realized that Renault had really improved immensely over the past years, its B-segment family (Clio, Captur and Zoe) are at the top of the game.

    4. Well, after driving a number of EVs I bought a ZOE. I can't testify as for the reliability yet, but all the rest is quite good. I'm really happy with it.
My sister has had a Megane for a couple of years now, she hadn't complained. She had a Clio before that. She hasn't complained about that either.

    5. The Renault Zoe charging system doesn't work on the Norwegian IT power system. Since most residential areas in Norway use the IT power system sales of the Renault Zoe are going to remain lackluster until Renault updates the car with a new charger. Work on this is reportedly in progress. The e-Golf doesn't have this problem.

    6. Thanks for the insight on that matter!

  6. According to the blog Best Selling Cars about 75 percent of VW Up sales in Norway are electric. The same may be true for the electric Golf. The electric version of the Up outsells the gas model 3 to 1 in Norway.
